You probably wouldn't expect it, but Vääna-Jõesuu, along with Laagri and Astangu, is one of the three Matkafy tours where we go underground! This is because it was here that the joint command center of Peter the Great's Naval Fortress and land front was located, along with the so-called generals' bunker and a 300-meter-long underground tunnel connecting them. Naturally, we're going through this tunnel! But that's not all. Marie Under vacationed among the pine trees, and Artur Adson vacationed among the pine trees... Yes, in Vääna-Jõesuu. After all, it is one of the most popular summer resorts around Tallinn, which bloomed in the late 1930s and achieved true fame during the Soviet era. We will break down the history of Soviet-era cooperative and pioneer life, talk about the children's summer colony opened by Päts, and, of course, the more distant manor era. We'll also have some fun—we'll visit the infamous Vääna-Viti bus stop, where you never know if the sign will read Vääna-Viti or Vääna-Vit*. Where does that name that tempts mischievous boys to vandalize it really come from, and what does it actually mean?
Please note that, depending on the season, there can be up to 30 cm of water in the Vääna-Jõesuu tunnels. If possible, bring tall rubber boots!
