Pääsküla bog - nature in the city!

It's hard to believe, but older Nõmme residents remember a picturesque peat bog with stunted pines on the edge of Nõmme, where even livestock was kept in some places. Although this idyllic place has been lost forever due to Soviet-era land reclamation and peat extraction, it's still a very interesting area and a prime example of what happens to a bog after human intervention. While it's no longer a bastion of pristine nature, the Pääsküla bog is still the closest and most accessible option for Tallinn residents to immerse themselves in nature.
